Garhwali village life in the mountains of Uttarakhand is quiet, slow, and close to nature. Days start early with farm work, tending to cows, and drinking hot tea while looking at green hills. People grow food on step-like fields cut into the hills, called terraced farms. Families keep cows and goats for milk and manure. Wood and fresh water come straight from nearby forests and streams. Traditional houses use wood and stone. Animals often stay on the ground floor to help keep the upper rooms warm.
